“Come back soon” (collage, paper on wood, 60×80, 2016) was one of the main pieces at my exhibition at Galerie Wind (Rotterdam) this summer and was also at the retrospective in Casa de la Cultura Les Bernardes (Girona), which ended last week.
The work deals with (loss of) desire, and though the smiley faces, happily coloured flowers and tropical birds may be taken for joy, this collage also invites other interpretations. Is the tiger leaving or protecting? Does the tail between his legs suggest a contrast with the happy smiles, or does it express feelings the sailors don’t express? Is the sailor behind the blue flamingo in the back the one who is left behind and do the others sail off? And why is that flamingo blue?
And will the one addressed in the title come back soon?
“Come back soon” (collage, papel sobre madera, 60×80, 2016) fue una de las piezas principales de mi exposición en Galerie Wind (Róterdam) este verano y también en la retrospectiva de la Casa de la Cultura Les Bernardes, que terminó la semana pasada.
La obra se fija en (la pérdida de) el deseo, y aunque las caras sonrientes, las flores de colores felices y las aves tropicales se puede interpretar como alegría, este collage también invita a otras interpretaciones. ¿Está el tigre saliendo o protegiendo? ¿La cola entre sus piernas sugiere un contraste con las sonrisas felices, o expresa sentimientos que los marineros no expresan? ¿Es el marinero detrás del flamenco azul el que se queda atrás y los otros navegan fuera? ¿Y p o r q u é ese flamenco es azul?
¿Y el que se aborda en el título vuelve pronto?
